Online accounts are considered abandoned if the user has not signed in for a while (usually three years). The money held in abandoned accounts are sent to the SCO, including accounts for online banking and brokerage platforms. Some assets may be sold or auctioned (such as stocks in a brokerage account) before it is accepted into the Unclaimed Property Fund (UPF).
When a business attempts to send a check but is unsuccessful - or if they notice the check was never deposited - the business is required to send that money to the SCO. Common examples include refunds, wages, and court settlements. Cash is by far the most commonly escheated property and is what Anderson specializes in.
When a bank or credit union determines that a safe deposit box has been abandoned and is unable to contact the owner, it sends the contents to the SCO. The contents may be auctioned if they continue to be unclaimed.
If you received a letter or postcard from us, it is because we have identified one or more unclaimed properties that may belong to you. Once we have confirmed your interest, we will conduct a full search of the SCO's list of unclaimed properties.
Once we have a final list of properties that belong to you, we will have you complete a final review of the Claim Package. Once it is received, the SCO will assign a "Warrant Number."
Once the Claim Package has been sent or uploaded to the SCO's online system, they will either (1) ask for additional information or documentation, or (2) process your claim for immediate payment!
Once your claim has been processed, the SCO will send you a check via USPS! Remember, you will never need to pay Anderson directly - the "Investigator's Fee" is a contingent fee that is subtracted from the total claim amount and sent to Anderson by the SCO as a separate check.
